What is an EKG?
An electrocardiogram, or EKG, is a diagnostic test that evaluates the electrical signals in your heart. This noninvasive procedure uses sensors that attach to the surface of your skin in several places across your chest and limbs. The sensors record electrical impulses that occur with each beat of your heart.

Because the sensor patches stick to your skin with an adhesive, the staff may need to shave small areas of chest or arm hair to ensure the patch stays on throughout the procedure.
When the test begins, you need to lie still to ensure accurate results. As the EKG records the electrical impulses of your heart, you’ll feel no discomfort or pain.
Your Dearborn Family Clinic provider evaluates your heart’s activity throughout the test, which the EKG displays as wave graphs printed on paper.
